Thoughts can occur exceptionally fast; for example; while sleeping, have you ever heard a sound or been bumped, then woken up and realised that you’ve just had a dream which included the noise or bump as a central or latter part of that dream? In a moment, the mind either constructed that dream around the external occurrence, or added it into the latter part of the dream with preceding events, as if it was written in it before the event occurred.
You may have said or heard it said… “I didn’t have time to think about it” There’s always time to act on wise thought rather than submit to selfish desire, but if you’ve made a habit of satisfying self, then its a “no brainer” to continue down that path; but to bear fruit to God’s glory, and be a light to the world, I’ll have to act and speak more like Christ and less like myself:
Matthew 16:24 “… Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.“
It’s very clear to see where the solution to the problem of repetitive regretted words and actions lies; as with all righteousness, it rests in Christ as the verse instructs:
- Deny pride.
- Deny my own rights.
- Deny conforming to men’s standards or expectations.
- Deny the choice of giving an account for saying the wrong words, or completing the wrong action.
Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that every idle word, whatever men may speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive the things done through the body, according to that which he has done, whether good or bad.
Make straight paths for your feet; now is the time to lay up in store for yourself a good foundation against the time to come, that you may lay hold on eternal life. (Ref. 1Timothy 6:19)
Christ is the supreme example of how we should speak and act, take His yoke on you and learn from Him, He’s meek and lowly in heart and you’ll find rest to your soul.
Its a beautifull experience to hear Godly men and women speaking like Christ; I expect you know some who remind you of Christ as He’s spoken of in Luke 4:22;
And all bore witness to Him and wondered at the gracious words which came out of His mouth.
Deny yourself; it’ll make the natural man ache and die, and the new man will live and bear fruit to God’s glory!
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
